On Friday 5th September 2025 16 of us from AFC made a visit to the Greatmoor Waste Facility north of Aylesbury.
It was an afternoon organised by our Eco Church Group and we had a facinating 3 hour visit to the site, which is the UK's largest single grate facility.
We were shown around the plant and saw the giant bunker that receives the general waste from kerbside collections in Bucks. We then visited the area where it is all dealt with in a giant grate - slightly terrifying to lift the window shield and see it all being burnt. Our next stop was the turbine room which takes the steam being produced from the grate and turns it into electricity for 40,000 homes. Our finial stop was a cup of tea in the Education Room where our guide told us a little more about various recycling options.
It was a facinating and helpful afternoon - so many thanks for everyone who helped organise it.
