The Amersham Free Church Choir

has been enriching worship at morning services since about 1990, leading the congregation in the singing of hymns old and new, and more contemporary worship songs. The small but dedicated group now meets to rehearse before around 10am on a Sunday before the service begins.
Occasionally the choir is augmented by singers from other churches or choirs in the area; including for the Candlelight Carols service at Christmas or for special occasions such as the 70th Jubilee for the late Queen Elizabeth II. The choir also joins with that of St. Michael and All Angels for the biannual COTHA services that are held either at St. Michael’s Church, or at AFC.
There are always spare seats in the choir! If you’d like to join then please get in touch with Sara Autton who can give you more information. You will be most welcome.

Life and Faith Groups
Our former three House Groups, operating since 1998, have recently been joined by three other gatherings in the church. One is engaged in creative, interactive praying; the other exercises knitting ministry, and the third is a Book Discussion Group.
This has opened the way to re-name ourselves as ‘Life & Faith’ Groups. The name reflects our conviction that our Christian spirituality embraces prayerful loving service as well as open and faithful study of Scripture.
We usually meet at different times of the week in each other’s homes over a cup ofcoffee and we welcome anyone interested to join us in any of our groups.
Currently we have six groups - details are posted regularly on the notice sheet.

Offering a welcome to, and being part of, our local community
LunchBreak
Each Tuesday lunchtime.  Food is served in the church hall from 12noon-1pm - a selection of sandwiches, sweet buscuits, fruit, tea and coffee and friendly chat.  Suggested donation is £4.00.  Then at 1.10pm there is usually a programme in The Sanctuary of around 30mins of a short service, talk or music from visiting groups and schools. All are welcome.

Tea at Three

On Tuesday afternoons the church is open from 3.00pm until 4.00pm when tea or coffee and home made cakes and scones are served in the Alfred Ellis Hall at a very reasonable cost.
Stay for a short time or for as long as you wish.
Come regularly or drop in whenever you are free.
We will welcome you and give you a good cup of tea, home baking and conversation.

Fun at One
Fun at One (named after its starting time) was started in September 1998 by a team of church members. Everyone is welcome there is no need to book.
It provides a safe, friendly environment for children from birth to 5 years and  their parents/carers every Friday during term time except for the third Friday of each month.
For children there are crafts, colouring, dressing up, puzzles, ride-on toys, push-along toys, Peppa Pig, trampoline, soft-play blocks, home corner, and a wealth of small toys, as well as a short singing time and story time.
Drinks and biscuits are provided during the afternoon.

Opportunities for Fellowship
Church Lunch
Held about five or six times a year after morning service.  A light lunch in the church hall offering an opportunity for meeting up and conversation

Church Social
Held a couple of times a year in the late afternoon or early evening. An opportunity to come together for an evening of fellowship, light meal, quizes and laughter!

Friday Lunch Forum
Formerly the Men's Luncheon Club which was set-up in 1985 at a time when it became obvious that, perhaps as a result of earlier retirements, there appeared to be more men around during the week than before. Among the local churches there were numerous popular ladies' groups, but none for the men. What might the men appreciate? The answer proved to be good food, great company and an interesting talk
The format of the monthly meetings, usually held on the third Friday of each month, has recently altered. The name has changed, meetings now welcome ladies and those attending are now asked to bring a packed lunch. We sit down to eat our meals from 12.15 with the talks starting at 1.00pm and lasting approx 1 hour. (There is NO meeting in the month of August) Suggested donation £3-£5 each month to meet the cost of speakers.
We have a small committee consisting of a chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer whilst members are encouraged to help to find speakers for each month. And at our AGM in December we usually seek to rotate the chair.
We welcome members from AFC and any other local churches as well as others with no known church connection.

Looking Outwards
Mission Offerings
Every year AFC supports mission and charitable agencies both at home and overseas.
Our biggest support goes to our 'parent' denominations via our General Fund giving.  Over recent years we have annually donated £10,000 to the United Reformed Church, £5,000 to the Baptist Union and £5,000 to the Baptist Missionary Society.
In addition we promote a charity every month via our Mission Offering.  This is made using specific giving envelopes. The list of charities is drawn up by our Partnership in Mission Committee, who also regularly present a talk or write an article to support that month's cause.  The list is accepted by our Elders' and Church Meetings.
