Roger Kyakurumbye (14) and Alan Namsisi (7) come to this natural water source in their village of Buwambo 7 times per day to collect enough water for their families. They get up before 6am every morning to make the half hour bike ride from their home. Often they do not have the time to go to school.

The water they collect is dirty and makes them feel ill.

“A lot of rotten things fall into the water and it makes us sick when we drink it. The animals drink it and walk in the water. It can give you a skin rash, malaria and sometimes cholera.” Roger

It is also dangerous to collect the water.

“I would like a pump because it would be easier to collect the water. I always get very wet balancing on the log and often children fall in the water. Once somebody drowned.” Alan

“I am in class P5 at Barambo School. I wish I had more time to go to school. We do not have latrines or a water pump at school so sometimes it is difficult but I enjoy learning and seeing my friends.” Roger
